I didn't like Pandora at all although lots of folks I know swear by it. I chose my genre and then wasn't interested in the first 5 songs that were played and Pandora got irritated with me and suggested I switch to another station (there's apparently a limit to the number of songs you can skip in an hour). Not interested.
If you're up for it, start with an artist. I started with Indigo Girls and ended up with a really nice mix. (I also did okay with Reggae.)

I randomly discovered Pandora searching for music on the Web. I have to say, I like. I originally created my own "station," as Marcia suggests, starting with some artists I like, but I almost like listening to the classical or blues stations. I have no formal music knowledge and I like being able to read why Pandora thinks I'll like certain songs or artists.
